How to Measure CT Hounsfield Units (HU) and Other Values Using the DICOM Viewer Ellipse Measurement Tool

Using the DICOM viewer’s Ellipse tool, you can measure HU and values like mean, minimum, and maximum. This guide explains how.

1. Open the DICOM study and Image
   Load the scan, and navigate to the area where you want to measure.

2. Select the Ellipse Tool
   Click the Measure > Ellipse tool in the toolbar.

3. Draw the Ellipse
   Click and drag over the region of interest to create an ellipse ROI. Adjust its size and position as needed.

View HU and Other Values within the ROI
The viewer displays values from within the region of interest.

• Tips:

  • Avoid placing the ellipse ROI over artifacts or metal.
  • Ensure the images are in DICOM format to obtain accurate values and measurements.
  • Press E or ESC to clear the Ellipse tool.
  • To export measurements, copy the values from the measurement to the 📄 clipboard.
